Silver Lake Railroad

I have been a Railfan since my middle school years (mid 1980's). I have ridden tourist railroads in 10 states and commercial passenger trains in 2.  I have traveled at speeds from 5 MPH up to just over 60 MPH.  I have pretended I was a wood hick on a log train to an important business executive on an express rushing toward the Big Apple. I have watched in amazement to the crowd that was stuffed into 13 Amfleet coaches disembarking onto the platform at Penn Station the night before the Thanksgiving Day parade. Then I show up at Silver Lake, take a ride on your train and somehow I get that old familiar feeling of contentment that I first had back in middle school on my first steam train ride. How did you do that to me? I could not put my finger on it, so three years latter my family and I were back in the mountains and we took another ride.  This was the most enjoyable ride yet again!  Simply put, low and slow is the way to go. It allows you to hear the scenery, smell the atmosphere, and RELAX!  It may not be high tech, stream-lined, or a steam powered train, but it is simply the best ride executed in simplicity itself.  You get a great understanding of the efficiency and effortless movement of steel wheels on steel rails from sitting closer to the track than in a typical passenger rail car.  All those other train rides are still awesome, but this is something different and special. My family and I will be back, and soon.  Thanks for doing what you do!
