Washout On The SLRR- "Read All About IT!"
The year's final railroad report has been reported, and any new news will be reported on the railroad report page.
Last week we were told about a washout that had occurred on our line. This washout is located around Milepost B128.5. This washout is located in the same place as where it had washed out nearly twenty years ago. As our line is owned by the State of NH, and the state uses the line as a primary snowmobile corridor, filling this washout is a priority. Some workers from the state and a bunch of the SLRR's volunteers plan to fill the washout on Monday Nov 22nd. Pictures of the washout are linked at the bottom of this article.
The washout is around fifty to sixty feet long and five or more feet deep. The washout is believed to be caused by a clogged culvert, which had been work of the "busy beavers." The water couldn't adequately flow through the culvert and had washed out the tracks. The tracks are currently dangling over the washout.
On monday our blue A6 and dump car will be used to move gravel out to the washout where the volunteers and state workers will distribute and fill the washout. Pictures of "filling the washout" should arrive by midweek.
Hope all goes well!- If there are any questions please contact silverlakerr@yahoo.com.
